In other words, patent holders can choose not to be governed by the rules of the UPC and to continue to use national courts for their patent disputes.<\/p>\n<p>The opt-out offers European patent holders the possibility to choose between the Unified Patent Court and national courts, depending on their strategic, procedural and financial preferences.
